MEADOW
CONSERVATION
MARTHA’S VINEYARD
Set alongside protected conservation land, this project was driven by a commitment to ecological harmony and habitat restoration. The goal: to design a native meadow framed by a thoughtfully planted hedgerow of native shrubs, creating a seamless transition between cultivated landscape and wild surroundings.
Using native shrubs in a hedgerow not only provides structure and privacy, it also enhances biodiversity, offers critical shelter for birds and pollinators, and supports a more resilient, natural-looking landscape.
The meadow itself is a dynamic, low-maintenance planting filled with seasonal texture and movement. It features a mix of ferns, iris, lobelia, sedge, milkweed, and aster, all chosen for their ecological value, adaptability, and visual beauty throughout the growing season.
This project is a model for ecological design, where aesthetics and ecology go hand in hand to create a thriving, living landscape.
