GARDEN TIPS OF THE WEEK
by Chuck and Chris Wiley
This is the best time to plant most everything!
Now is the time to seed warm weather vegetables in your garden. Plant the seeds directly into the garden soil. Warm weather veggies include beans, corn, zucchini, cucumber and other squashes.
The general rule for covering seeds with soil is 2 times the thickness of the seed. Most small seeds do not need to be covered at all. A lot of seeds need light in order to germinate.
Now is the time to plant tomato, pepper, artichoke and eggplant plants.
You can still seed carrots, beets, Swiss Chard and a last batch of lettuce and greens in the shadier parts of your garden.
Now is the time to plant basil and all other herbs. We offer a wide variety of basil and herbs.
It’s a great time to plant annual flowers and containers.
Seed a couple rows of Zinnias directly into a rich soil and you will have cut flowers all summer.
It’s not too late to fertilize your lawn or your newer plantings.
Use Holly tone on your hollies and your other broad leaf evergreens.
Time to plant raspberries, blackberries and blueberries. We have a wide selection of fruit trees and small fruits.
Gardening is relaxing and good for your health!
